Rainy Day

The past three days (with the exception of a few sunny moments) have been very rainy days.  I like them..  I thank God for the wonderful green that is going to come from this rain that is soaking the ground!  I like that fall is here and soon it will cool off.  Just the other day I wore my sweatshirt... because it's so comfy!  I love to be cozy in my sweatshirt... it's difficult when it's 80!  ha ha!  It should be cooling down soon and we'll be ready to get out and take some rides on our bikes and do fun fall-time activities.

I've been enjoying this new women's bible study I've started going to.  We're doing Beth Moore's most recent release of "Breaking Free".  It sure is helping me break free from some of the little things that seem to occupy a lot of my brain power.  I didn't realize what a hold they can have on me.  Over analyzing myself and my actions ... and the result is taking the focus away from God.  I guess I needed someone to come right out and tell me that's what's happening.  It's a great study and I'm just in the first week of 10!  I can't wait to get into the rest of it and find out what else God wants to reveal to me.

I had some procedures done recently and I thank God for his mercy and grace ... he's given me a wonderful ability to not be very sensitive to pain.  I thank Him for leading my mouth - for the questions that I asked - and the doctor's hands during the procedures.  I look forward, with anticipation and excitement, for the results and future outcome.  :)

My little boy and his Daddy are out enjoying the cool breeze on this wet day.  The most recent adventure that they've taken on is getting rid of the squirrels from our yard.  We would like to have some pecans from our tree once it's time to harvest them.  (We don't like to share them with the animals ... we will share with family and friends!)  The squirrels seem to steal them a lot this time of year.  Branches are being trimmed and the grass is now lightly dusted with a nice spicy cayenne pepper!  Maybe the squirrels will look for sustenance in a different yard.

Until next time... have a lovely day!

giving back

I have become a member of a mom's crafty group online (www.cafemom.com, crop and chat group).  This group makes handmade cards and does scrapbooking.  Once they complete a project, they post it online to share their ideas with others.  I have gotten a lot of great ideas since I have become a member.  It's a wonderful way to learn new techniques and get the "jump start" I needed to get back into the craftiness I once did so often.

One of the challenges they have been working on this month is to make as many hand made cards as possible.  Once collected, they're sent to a post where they will be distributed to troops overseas.  Here are a couple that I have sent out.  I didn't realize this was being done prior to a few days ago ... but it's a great way to give back for all they are doing for us!

May God bless them richly with His love.

happy fall!

I bought 4 apples the other day.  I wanted to make apple crisp but did not make the time.  One apple had been eaten.  Now I had 3.  There were still enough because they were big, green tart apples.  Those are the best for this dish.  Yes, apple crisp has been on my mind.

When I was younger, my Grandma Latscher would always bring my sister and I up to the apple festival in Wisconsin.  It was a lot of fun.  There were apples everywhere.  Apples in everything and it smelled so sweet.  We would taste as many treats as Grandma would allow.  I remember the caramel apples.  Those were my favorite.

Apples!  It is what I think of when fall arrives... fresh, crisp apples that crunch in your mouth and the juice that sometimes spills out.  I love it!  Yum.  Then there is apple crisp.  It is not the crunch like the raw apple that I like, but the soft, smooth, sweet and delicious apples with the crunchy-sweet crisp topping.  Now it was time.

This is what I made today!

He couldn't wait for it to be done.  It's been almost a year since I made this last.
I served him a bowl and he could hardly wait to dig in.
After the ice cream sat atop the warm apple crisp, it melted.
It was delicious.

Happy Fall!!

P.S.  I use the Betty Crocker recipe & double the crisp topping.

this morning

I sat in the quiet of the room.
I heard
my breath
birds chirping
the clock ticking
cars moving
peacefulness
happiness
quiet

I like the quietness of the morning.  I loved watching the sun peek through the window in the kitchen.  Soon it had moved on to rise and wake the rest of the world to this beautiful day.  Thank you, God, for this day you have given us.  The last day of summer.  Good bye, Summer!  I'll miss you.
